The Mayor develops strategies to address environmental issues in London. These issues could include:

  • pollution and air quality
  • biodiversity
  • energy
  • noise
  • waste and recycling
  • climate change
  • parks and green spaces

The Mayor appoints members of the board of the Royal Parks Agency and is directly responsible for Trafalgar Square and Parliament Square.

The London Assembly reviews the Mayor’s environmental strategy, recommends improvements and tests it to ensure it can be delivered effectively.
